Transitional Kindergarten

Not ready for kindergarten just yet?

This year our Comets class will be exclusively for
students who turn 5 by or before October 31st.

Why transitional kindergarten?

Parents often feel stuck if their child has already ‘graduated’ from preschool/Pre-K or might worry about their child being the only 5 year old in a class full of 4s.

Transitional kindergarten is an alternative solution: continue gently preparing your child for academic success while supporting all the other facets of their development.

Benefits of attending TK at All-Star:

  • Smaller classes:
The typical kindergarten class has about 20-23 students enrolled. Our class size is much smaller for more a more personal and responsive experience with only 14 students (with a 7:1 ratio).

  • Developmentally appropriate:
Children learn best through hands-on, playful activities. Attending TK allows for more time and opportunity to develop deeper understanding without being stuck at a desk.

  • Academic confidence:
Children who have extra time to build valuable executive function and adaptive skills before kindergarten are more likely to succeed academically.

  • Shorter days:
The traditional school day is pretty long when you’re 5 years old! A shorter day means that your child has time to decompress and process all the things they’ve seen, heard, and experienced at school. This allows for faster integration of new information and skills.

  • Love of learning:
Our passion is teaching kids to love learning. Establishing positive memories of school during this phase of development sets the stage for our students to be lifelong learners and explorers.
